Autumn and winter: what to watch in Alanya's mild winter

Alanya's winter is warmer than most places: rain instead of snow, cool rather than freezing days. That makes life easier for pets, but keeps a few risks in the background. As summer turns to winter, a few points are worth not missing.

Parasite season does not fully end

In cold climates ticks and fleas fade in winter; in the Mediterranean's mild winter they may not disappear entirely. Dropping regular parasite protection early just because it turned cool can make spring harder to enter smoothly. Talk to your vet about whether to continue protection.

Rain, damp and paw care

On rainy days, fur that stays wet and constantly damp paws can set the stage for skin irritation and fungus. Drying the paws and belly after a walk is a simple habit that helps. In breeds whose ears stay damp, an ear check should not be neglected either.

Seniors and joints

Cool, damp weather can increase stiffness in older animals and those with joint problems. Raising the bed off the floor, keeping them away from cold surfaces and maintaining gentle movement makes a difference. A clear limp or reluctance to move is not something to wave off as "just winter".

Winter for street animals
